Agua Caliente Casino Resort delivers meals to muscular dystrophy patients
A deserving valley organization got a special Thanksgiving donation today.
Executives from Agua Caliente Casino Resort loaded up cars and delivered a full Thanksgiving meal to ventilator-dependent patients at an Angel View home in Desert Hot Springs.
“It makes me feel warm inside cause I can be part of it and feel other people’s joy and stuff,” said Peter Li, an Angel View residential care patient.
Li has muscular dystrophy and is bound to his wheelchair. He was told he wouldn’t live past 20 years old, but he just celebrated his 40th birthday!
Vice President and Assistant General Manager Bob Maloney and other executives drove the ready-to-serve dinners over to the home, where the patients live and receive care.
“It’s got carrot cake, pumpkin pie, green beans, stuffing…everything,” Maloney said. “It’s a big deal — it’s a big meal, I should say.”
Patients said they were excited, and of course, grateful.
“Most of us don’t have family that would come out for Thanksgiving and stuff so it’s a nice way for people to get together,” Li said. “I want to thank Agua Caliente and Bob for coming all this way, for giving us food…it looks so delicious!”
Maloney said giving back is what makes the holiday worthwhile.
“It’s terrific, I mean any time we can give rather than receive on Thanksgiving or Christmas on the holidays, it makes you feel a heck of a lot better and this has certainly made my day,” Maloney said.
