Border Patrol rescues man from drowning on Thanksgiving
U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro sector saved a man from drowning in a canal east of Calexico Thanksgiving morning.
At 8:45 a.m., patrol agents patrolling the area of the All-American Canal spotted a man in distress in the water. The man was wearing a life vest but appeared to be too exhausted to swim to the shore of the canal.
After water rescue devices failed to get ahold of the man, a Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) team responded and were able to safely bring the man ashore. Once out of the water, the man was displaying symptoms of hypothermia and was treated by BORSTAR paramedics on scene, before being brought to the hospital by EMS.
“This type of professionalism and capability is an example the dedication Border Patrol agents have when protecting human life,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “I am very proud to represent El Centro Sector including the men and women of BORSTAR.”
This is the second rescue made by El Centro Border Patrol agents since Oct. 1.
