Crews rescue dog from Desert Hot Springs fire

Fire crews have contained a garage fire at a residence on the 66000 Block of 6th Street in Desert Hot Springs.

Crews were able to rescue a dog which was in the residence when the fire broke out. The family that lives in the residence was not home at the time of the fire but are seeking lodging, as the damages have caused the residence to not be habitable. The damage was primarily contained to the interior of the structure.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The fire was initially reported at 11:18 a.m and contained at 11:54 a.m.

The fire was located in the “working garage” of a single-dwelling home.

5 fire engines, one truck, officers from Desert Hot Springs Police Department and a Battalion chief are on scene. Crews are expected to stay on scene for an hour and a half for mop-up.

Crews from Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas have been requested to assist on scene.
