Showers to taper overnight, flash food watch in mountains through early morning

Rainfall in the Inland Empire exceeded three inches in some areas, here in the valley Palm Springs saw 0.05″ of rainfall, while Desert Hot Springs picked up 0.08″. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for the local mountains through 3am, with a Wind Advisory surrounding the entire valley until 6am Friday.

Showers will taper off in the over night, with winds gusting to 25mph around the valley, particularly north of the freeway. Snow may continue in elevations above 5,500 feet. Big Bear picked up about 2-3inches of snow, the top of the tram less than that.

The snow level will start quite high at around 8000-feet but slowly fall during the day, finally resting at 6000-feet by early-Friday morning. The Palm Springs Tramway could see around a half-a-foot of cover. The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Weather Advisory for area mountains above 6000-feet through Friday morning.

Some sunshine returns to the Coachella Valley on Friday but temps will remain cool. A second cold front swings through SoCal on Saturday but only a few scattered showers are expected in, and West of, our mountains. The day will be windy and a bit chilly.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be mostly clear days but with Valley highs only in the middle-60s.

As of today it looks like the next major rainmaker will roll over SoCal on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
