CCHS “Adopt-a-Family” program providing holiday cheer
Christmas cheer came a little early for some families in the the western Coachella Valley, all thanks to students from Cathedral City High School.
“2018 Adopt a Family! Wooo! You guys did awesome! Let’s go!”
The holiday spirit is on display at CCHS with students carrying gifts, and Christmas tunes providing a festive atmosphere.
“It feels really great knowing that we’re going to help not only our community but people in our community and knowing that we can help them throughout the holiday,” Pamela Leon, a CCHS senior, said.
She helped organize the Adopt a Family program. It’s been done annually since 1991. It’s where families in need are given a week’s worth a food and toys for kids. This year, 25 families received donations.
“I hope to see a lot of people really happy to see that they have something to come to at home on Christmas,” Leon said.

“We’re here to spread a little Christmas cheer to you.”
Students stopped by the Palm Springs home of Fabian Lejarazu. He says it’s a tough job as a single father taking care of four kids and is grateful for the help.
“Especially in this time, it’s tough for everybody, when people share with others, it’s great,” Lejarazu said.
He believes his kids will be thrilled with the new toys they’re getting.
“Happy for sure definitely. I mean it’s a surprise you know. Tell me what kid doesn’t want a surprise,” Lejarazu said.
A surprise made possible by the generosity of these students.
According to PSUSD officials, the CCHS “Adopt-A-Family” effort will have served more than 1,050 families since its inception in 1991.
