Local couple donates 22 bikes to Salvation Army

A local couple is getting into the holiday spirit by giving to those in need.

Robert and Mary Clifford started collecting bottles and cans to recycle, donating the money to help the Salvation Army in Cathedral City to purchase bicycles.

According to Salvation Army officials, the Cliffords raised around $1,200 from recycling. That money helped the Salvation Army buy 22 bikes this year to give to families.

Robert says he started picking up bottles and cans a few years ago. He told News Channel 3 last year while donating platelets at a local blood bank, he saw a Christmas tree with names from the Salvation Army and decided to give back.

“For every dollar, we get for bottles and cans, my wife and I put in two dollars. and then we ended up buying 7 bicycles last year,” Robert said.
