Cathedral City Police Department host “Gun Buyback Program”

On December 22, the Cathedral City Police Department will be hosting a “Gun Buyback Program” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. near the Cathedral City Civic Center on 68700 Ave Lalo Guerrero.

Residents can voluntarily surrender their firearms, no questions asked. Residents will receive for $50 gift card for inoperable firearms; up to $100.00 in gift cards for handguns, 150.00 for shotguns and rifles; and up to $200.00 in gift cards for assault weapons (as classified in the State of California). All gift cards will be for local businesses.

The goal of the program is to reward residents for the surrender of firearms while coming together with the community to reduce gun violence.

CCPD asks that if you do wish to surrender your guns remember that they should be unloaded and transported in the trunk or rear area of the vehicle. When you arrive stay inside your vehicle and follow signage around the Civic Center that will direct you to the correct area to drive to. Police employees will be at the location to assist with directions and information.

CCPD says this is an “anonymous process in which individuals can surrender their weapons, no questions asked.” Officers will take each gun, verify serial numbers to determine ownership – or if a gun is stolen. Stolen guns will be returned to their owners. The remaining guns will be scheduled for destruction.
