La Quinta council apologizes for IRONMAN traffic issues in letter to residents

The City of La Quinta apologized to residents for the traffic issues created by the IRONMAN event last month in a letter. The letter was signed by every member of the city council, including Mayor Linda Evans.

In the letter, the city council stressed it had not yet agreed to host anymore IRONMAN events stating: “We need IRONMAN to understand that while we are honored La Quinta was chosen to co-host this event, the negative impact it had on our community cannot be repeated. We are evaluating what went wrong, where improvement is needed, and what needs to change BEFORE agreeing to host any future IRONMAN or other events.”

The letter also stated the council was in post event recap meetings with the IRONMAN officials addressing feedback they had received from residents and businesses.

The council in an effort to rebuild trust with residents said in the letter, they would established a “Shop LQ” campaign to encourage the entire Coachella Valley to shop “La Quinta businesses who were impacted so greatly” by the event.
