Cooler temps and overcast skies impact weekend festivals across valley

Drizzling rain and cooler temperatures affected people across the valley Saturday. People at both the LiveWell Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival say the weather impacted their weekend plans.

“Well as Coachella valley residents we aren’t really sure what to do when weather…when real weather happens…I think the turnout was maybe less than they thought but I thought it was a great turnout lots of vendors,” said Abigail Sturgeon, a musical performer at Palm Desert’s LiveWell Festival.

Although fewer locals attended than anticipated due to the weather, hundreds still showed up to the event, which featured several local vendors all showcasing the valley’s health and wellness services.

“It’s very nice and I think it’s something the city is doing to try and encourage the community at large to think about some of the things we should be doing or maybe not doing…eating well, exercising living well…and so it’s really nice,” said Blake Tatom, a LiveWell Festival participant.

The event also featured several acoustic musical performances, including a set by “The Sibs” – a local brother and sister duo.

“Music is so important for identity and processing emotions…music for us is a huge part of our living well,” said Will Sturgeon, alongside his sister Abigail.

The Festival also featured massages, group yoga sessions, clean eating demos and other fun fitness-related activities for the whole family.

“The beauty of the desert is that the outdoor invites you to get outside and get active,” said Jayne Robertson, another LiveWell Festival participant.

But while people at Palm Desert Civic Park braved the rain today, others in the valley chose to spend the day inside instead — at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Many agreed it was perfect movie-watching weather.

“It’s perfect because we were gonna take a hike earlier but then we decided let’s just stay in,” said Dolores and Matt Robinson, who spent the day at the screening of “The Public,” a film featuring Emilio Estevez and Alec Baldwin.
