Deputies investigating two La Quinta deaths

A homicide investigation continued late Monday in La Quinta.

At 9:00 a.m. Monday, deputies received a call about a person seen lying on the ground behind a residence on the 79700 block of Independence Way in La Quinta. Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies say they located a deceased man and woman near the back of the residence.

There was no threat to public safety, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department statement.

Independence Way was closed to all traffic until late Monday night west of Monticello Avenue.

“There is no additional information to release at this time due to maintaining the integrity of the investigation,” read a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department statement sent to News Channel 3.

Investigators took away the bodies and cleared the scene at 9:40 p.m., News Channel 3 morning anchor Jeff Stahl confirmed.

“Very sad and also scary…just because to know that crime like that is being committed,” said Alison Airhart, a neighborhood resident who lives three blocks from the scene. “I’m not sure why the bodies were found or what happened to the people but if it was a murder, that’s very disturbing.”
