Desert Hot Springs murder suspect arrested
Police have arrested a suspect in a shooting that left one person dead last month.
The Desert Hot Springs Police Department announced that James Angel, 43, of Desert Hot Springs was arrested today in connection with a deadly shooting at an illegal gambling operation in the 66500 Block of Pierson Boulevard on December 11.

One person died in the hospital three days after the incident. The person’s injuries were originally thought to be non-life threatening injuries.
Angel was booked for murder at the Indio Jail. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.

The suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Raymond Villegas of Indio, escaped after crashing his vehicle in the desert area south of Two Bunch Palms Trail and West Drive.
Villegas was arrested the next evening and booked for attempted murder of a police officer, along with several other felonies.
