Man arrested in Yucca Valley for attempted murder of a sheriff deputy

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in Yucca Valley Wednesday night for the attempted murder of a deputy sheriff.

At 10:23 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on the 5800 block of Bonanza Drive for a report of a suicidal subject. Rafael Zamora, as well as a woman and her two children, were determined to in residence.

The woman and children had secured themselves in a bathroom separate from Zamora, and a deputy entered the residence to help them get out.

Zamora then went into the backyard armed with a handgun and fired six rounds at the deputy, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department news release.

More deputies arrived on scene and called for Zamora to surrender. He surrendered and was taken into custody ten minutes later without further incident.
