Local media make another plea for access to police scanners
Local media outlets, including News Channel 3, made another plea for police scanner access during a public meeting this afternoon.
The Desert Sun, NBC Palm Springs, and News Channel 3 attended the meeting and spoke during public comments about public safety concerns associated with not having access to police scanners.

Palm Springs city manager David Ready made a proposal to have the issue added as an agenda item. He also suggested inviting the Department of Justice to attend and explain why scanner access has been removed.
Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon had previously also asked for a review of the decision.

In November, valley news organizations lost access to encrypted scanner signals from five local police agencies, who are part of the “Eastern Riverside County Interoperable Communications Authority.” This includes the Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Indio, Beaumont, & Palm Springs Police Departments.
