Weekend weather could impact National Collegiate Tennis Classic

This weekend’s forecast for rain could impact the National Collegiate Tennis Classic at La Quinta Resort. Schools from across California and the country are participating in the 3-day tournament, which could be rained out on Saturday.

Despite the chances, players and coaches expressed optimism. Groundskeepers are ready with court rollers to soak up rain on the tennis courts if needed where dozens of men and women players will compete in more than a hundred matches over the course of the tournament.

The teams come from UCLA, USF, Pepperdine University, Syracuse, University of Mississippi, NC, Arizona State and South Carolina.

Saturday’s semi-final sets could be shortened — instead of 2 out of 3 matches, players may only have one set, or all games could be pushed into the final day on Sunday. However, the tournament will not be extended until Monday or beyond because student athletes need to get back to class.
