Fire destroys vacant building in Cathedral City

Police and firefighters were at the scene of a fire in an abandoned building early Friday morning in Cathedral City.

Firefighters were called to a commercial building along the 31900 block of San Luis Rey Drive at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The building used to house Pet Luv, and is located behind the Subway restaurant at the corner of Ramon Road and San Luis Rey Drive.

Flames were shooting from the commercial building’s roof which later collapsed from the intense heat.

Firefighters say it took approximately an hour to knock down the flames.

There were no injuries and nobody was found inside.

There appeared to be six units in the building.

Fire crews say the building was a total loss.

Ramon Road was closed to all traffic from San Luis Rey Drive to Agua Caliente Trail, but later reopened. San Luis Rey was also shut down to traffic between Ramon Road and Lakeview Circle.
