Rain or shine some valley workers continue outdoor jobs

Rain or shine — many jobs require workers to be outdoors during this week’s stormy conditions.

Construction workers and roofing repair companies are some jobs that are most directly impacted by the rain — and even depend on it for their business.

“Roofing is a pretty dangerous field,” said safety consultant Chris Williams from Williams and Sons Roofing in Palm Desert.

Although business increases during wet weather, the conditions aren’t easy to work in. Leaky roofs during storms are not only a nuisance for customers but can pose serious dangerous for repair crews.

Williams said his training includes a “safety first” policy and his employees use hard hats, harnesses and ropes to secure ladders when up on rooftops.

Some repairs aren’t even possible during rainy weather and have to be completed after the sun dries up roofing. The company suggests homeowners to use only professional services to inspect and repair roofs to avoid accidents or falls.
