Tour de Palm Springs focuses on bicyclist safety

The annual Tour de Palm Springs will be riding into town this weekend. The event brings thousands of cyclists out onto our local roads.

Tim Esser, the founder of the event, says safety will be a main concern at this year’s event.

“We know as cyclists we cannot compete with a car so we want to implement every safety that we possibly can and make this a nice and safe ride for everybody,” Esser said.

During last year’s Tour de Palm Springs, 21-year-old Ronnie Ramon Huerta Jr. lost control of his car and slammed into 2 cyclists, killing one of them and injuring the other last year. Huerta is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter.
