Families of quadruple homicide victims raising money for funeral expenses
Several fundraisers are being held this weekend to help the families of three of the four victims involved in a quadruple homicide over the weekend pay for funeral services.
Sunday night, four people died within about 30 minutes of each other. At around 11:40 PM near Sunny Dunes Road and El Placer Road in Palm Springs, three people, all between the ages of 17 to 19, were pronounced dead at the scene of a crash. The Palm Springs Police Department confirmed all three had gunshot wounds.
At 12:15 AM, a man’s body was found in the road on Canon Drive south of Theresa Drive in Palm Springs. Officers found that the man, later identified as Carlos Campos Rivera, 25, of Desert Hot Springs, had suffered from a gunshot wound and had died before they arrived on scene.
The three people found dead in the car were identified as Yuliana Garcia, 17 of Thousand Palms, Juan Duarte-Raya, 18, of Cathedral City, and Jacob Montgomery,19, of Cathedral City.
Their friends and family told News Channel 3 they were all good friends.
“Right now is the time when we show everyone the love and respect because they didn’t deserve this death,” said Iliana Murillo, a friend of Yuliana’s family.
Murillo took a moment to remember Yuliana.
“She was so loved by so much people, she had high spirits and always supported everybody,” Murillo said.
Murillo is inviting the public to support Yuliana’s family in raising funds for the young victim’s funeral. A car wash is being hosted at Joe’s Tire Shop on 31530 San Luis Rey Drive in Cathedral City Saturday starting at 3 pm and all day Sunday.
A taco sale is also being hosted Saturday from 10 am until about 5 pm at 32405 Monte Vista Road in Cathedral City. Funds from this fundraiser will be going toward Durate-Raya’s memorial.
“He was full of life. He was very funny. He has a laugh, that when you looked at him, he just giggled and that’s going to stay with me,” said Jullisa Duarte, Duarte-Raya’s aunt.
At “La Bella Cucina” at 72355 HWY 111 in Palm Desert , family friends of Montgomery, are accepting donations for his services.
“We’re ust doing the right thing. That’s all we’re trying to do and there should be more of it out there, ’cause these kids, they need help,” said Anthony Riccio, owner of La Bella Cucina.
Murillo said a car wash for all three teenagers is being hosted Saturday and Sunday at the Sonic at 30777 Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City from 10 AM to 5 PM.
“I hope the community comes together and supports us because they at least deserve a decent burial,” Murillo said.
The suspect in the shooting, 19-year-old Jose Larin-Garcia of Cathedral City, charged with four counts for the murders.
Larin-Garcia is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 28.
