Border patrol finds$35K worth of meth in car battery

Border patrol agents find methamphetamine in a car battery.

According to a news release by El Centro Sector Border Patrol, Saturday at about 11:51 AM, a 40-year-old woman driving a black 2004 Honda Accord approached the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint.

The vehicle was sent to secondary inspection after agents were alerted by a canine detection team.

In secondary inspection, agents found a package hidden inside the vehicle’s battery. The content inside the package was found to be consistent with the characteristics of methamphetamine.

The meth weighed a total of 16.7 pounds, the estimated street value of it was $35,800, according to the border patrol.

The woman and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In fiscal year 2019, El Centro Sector agents have seized more than 1,089.02 pounds of methamphetamine, amounting to over $2.5 million.
