Friends and family of quadruple homicide victims washing cars to cover funeral expenses

Friends and family members of three teens shot and killed in Palm Springs this week hosted car washes, raising money to help cover funeral expenses.

“They were all my close friends. They were always happy. They would always make everyone laugh honestly,” said Cristina Garcia, a friend of three of the victims.

The three young friends Yuliana Garcia, Juan Duarte Raya and Jacob Montgomery were all shot and killed last Sunday. All three were between the ages of 17 and 19. Cristina Garcia says she had just spoken with Yuliana last week. “I didn’t believe it until I called one of their moms,” she said.

“she was like a sister to me she always cared about me,” said Laonzo Mora, another friend of the three teens.

“They were humble they were young full of life. We can’t believe it. These girls are out here and helping and they break down in tears because they can’t believe they’re actually doing this,” said Liliana Murillo, whose son was close with the group of friends.

Dozens of volunteers showed up to wash cars, accepting donations they plan to divide between the victims’ families in their time of need.

“Unfortunately the mom will open that door and won’t see her daughter coming through or their sons.Tthey were so young, they had their whole future ahead,” said Murillo.

“I hope in the future…the guns be down. No more violence, no more death, no more nobody’s family passing away…no more funerals. That’s all I wish,” said Mora.

Those out on Saturday say they’ll continue their car washing efforts all day on Sunday at both the Sonic on Date Palm and Joe’s tire shop in Cathedral City.
