Palm Springs lawyer announces city council candidacy
A Palm Springs lawyers and city planning commission member has announced her candidacy for the Palm Springs City Council District 1 seat.
Grace Elena Garner will be vying for the freshly-formed district, which runs from Desert Highlands to Demuth Park and Lawrence Crossley neighborhood along the city’s east end.
According to a campaign news release, Garner was born on the Twentynine Palms Marine base to two Marine parents, grew up in Palm Springs, and went to Palm Springs high school.
Garner went on to practice law in Washington D.C. after college and law school, and now practices in Palm Springs.
“Grace Elena Garner is focused on making sure that families and children in Palm Springs have the same opportunities she had,” reads her campaign news release. “She is committed to finding smart, efficient, and practical solutions for Palm Springs.”
She was recently given the Service Award from the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission for her working promoting “Human Rights on a Local Level” by assisting in the creation of the district map system as a part of the Palm Springs California Voting Rights Community Working Group.
According to Palm Springs City Clerk Anthony J. Mejia, five candidates have filed candidate intention statements so far.
