Running list of Coachella Valley, regional road closures

Police closed several major roadways around the Coachella Valley Friday, and motorists can expect to encounter the impacts of Thursday’s heavy rain and flooding around the area.

The following roads are closed or impacted due to heavy rain and flooding, according to PSPD:

N. Indian Canyon at Whitewater Wash remains closed. Farrell Drive at Mesquite Golf Club remains closed. Tramway Road and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway are closed. Araby Trail at the Palm Canyon wash remains closed.

“Due to floodwaters and mud running across Indian Canyon Drive crossing Whitewater Wash, some pavement areas have been compromised and will require reconstruction,” read a statement released by the city of Palm Springs Tuesday. “Do not be lulled into believing Indian Canyon Drive is passable because there are no barricades at the freeway. Access to Garnet Avenue and PS Train Station needs to be maintained.”

Roads that have been re-opened:

Golf Club Drive at Tahquitz Creek Highway 111 is open in both directions at Overture Road despite lane restrictions. Vista Chino Road between N. Gene Autry Trail and Cathedral City limits. N Gene Autry Trail between I10 and Via Escuela Frank Sinatra Drive at Whitewater Wash Vista Chino between Palm Springs and Cathedral City El Cielo Road between Mesquite Road and Escoba Road Baristo Road at South Indian Canyon South Palm Canyon at Murray Canyon Road El Cielo Road between Mesquite Road and Escoba Road. Baristo Road at South Indian Canyon South Palm Canyon at Murray Canyon Road.

“We will continue to provide updates but we currently do not have an ETA for reopening any of the roads. Debris and mud become a forgotten secondary hazard,” read the Palm Springs Police Department post. “Please drive carefully and avoid hazards which could turn an ordinary drive into a rescue.”

For residents looking to get to Interstate 10 in Palm Springs, from locations in Palm Springs, city officials recommend the following routes:

Gene Autry Trail Vista Chino to Date Palm Drive Ramon Road to Bob Hope Drive, then left on Bob Hope to freeway Dinah Shore to Bob Hope Drive, then left on Bob Hope to freeway

The following county roads reopened Saturday morning, according to the Riverside County Transportation Department.

Dillon Rd between Worsley Rd. and Diablo Rd was opened at 10:55 am.

Harry Oliver between Varner Rd. and Sun Bus was opened at 8:15 am

Airport Blvd between Orange St and Desert Cactus was opened at 07:45 am

The following closures were issued by Desert Cities on Thursday. Updates have not been issued on the status of these roads.

In Indio, Avenue 44 is closed at the White Water Channel wash, according to Indio PD.

In Indian Wells, the City of Indian Wells has reopened Fred Waring Drive to all traffic between Cook Street and El Dorado after flooding in the wash on Thursday closed the roadway.

Cathedral City announced via Twitter a closure of Cathedral Canyon Drive at its wash crossing due to the heavy rain on Thursday. The roadway will remain closed for ‘an indefinite period of time’, the city announced Tuesday.

“Due to the heavy rains and flooding last week, Cathedral Canyon Drive at the Whitewater Wash received severe damage,” read the city’s release. “City Engineers have determined that the road must remain closed for an indefinite period of time until further inspections can be made and a road repair plan implemented. Motorists are encouraged to avoid this area by taking an alternative route, such as Date Palm Drive, which just opened its new $22 million bridge expansion several months ago.”

Cathedral City – Date Palm Drive was open to traffic again Friday morning both north and south of Interstate 10. Date Palm Drive was closed Thursday at Los Gatos. Flooding was also reported at various areas of Ramon Road from DaVall to Landau. Please drive with caution.” said a police department tweet. Ramon Road, DaVall Drive, and Landau Boulevard were all open again to traffic on Friday morning.

The city said the following roads are closed:

Cathedral Canyon Drive at the wash, Los Gatos at Date Palm Drive, Vista Chino Road at the wash.
During the height of the storm, there was flooding near Plumley and Converse causing a major slow down as well as Date Palm Drive near Ramon. Flooding was also occurring Thursday on Dinah Shore Drive between Cathedral Canyon Drive and Date Palm Drive.

Varner between Mountain View and Edom Hill has been closed.

Road closures in Desert Hot Springs: Indian Ave. between Mission Lakes and Pierson. Little Morongo Road between Two Bunch Palms and Dillon Road. Dillon Road between Palm Drive and Two Bunch Palms. Use Palm Drive or Pierson if you need to leave the City.

In Palm Desert, Fred Waring, Cook Street, are all open, according the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Palm Desert station.

In Rancho Mirage, Frank Sinatra Drive is open again at the Whitewater crossing. The city of Rancho Mirage issued a statement warning drivers to use an alternate route.

Country Club Drive and Gerald Ford Drive were reopened at the wash in Rancho Mirage just before 5 p.m. on Friday.

Maintenance work will be conducted on the outside lanes of several roads in Rancho Mirage on Feb. 19 by the Coachella Valley Water District.:

Northbound Da Vall Drive at Dinah Shore Drive Eastbound Gerald Ford Drive at Mission Hills Drive Southbound Los Alamos Road at Gerald Ford Drive

South of Beaumont, the CHP reported rocks on the road on State Highway 79 southbound north of County Landfill Road.

In Beaumont, several closures were reported by police. Cherry Avenue at Brookside Avenue,
8th Street from Orange to Palm Avenue, 10th Street and Orange Avenue, 11th Street and Wellwood Avenue, Pearl St and Wellwood Avenue.

In Idyllwild, Highway 243 has been closed from Idyllwild to Banning, according to Caltrans. 243 between Lake Fulmor and SR 74 is also closed due to road loss.

Idyllwild and Pine Cove residents were asked to shelter in place due to road closures and deteriorating road conditions during the storm. Police are urging people to not travel to Idyllwild to play in the snow due to road closures and road repairs underway.

The CHP reported flooding on San Timoteo Canyon Road at Live Oak Canyon early Friday, also a slide on State Highway 371 at Burn Valley Road.
