Running list of Thursday Coachella Valley, regional road closures

Police closed several major roadways around the Coachella Valley Thursday, and motorists can expect roadway flooding around the area throughout the day into the evening. It could make getting home from work difficult.
In Palm Springs, The Palm Springs Police and Fire Departments are asking residents and visitors to “Shelter in Place” because of the hazards created by the heavy flooding. The message was issued at 10:26 a.m.
The following roads are closed or impacted due to heavy rain and flooding, according to PSPD as of 11:58 a.m.N. Gene Autry Trail between I10 and Via Escuela is closed.
South Palm Canyon at Murray Canyon is closed (Due to the one way in/out emergency services could be delayed). Highway 111 closed in both directions at Windy Point N. Indian Canyon north of Tramview Road is closed in both directions. S. Farrell Drive south of Ramon Road is closed. S. El Cielo Drive south of Ramon Road is closed. Golf Club Drive is closed at Tahquitz Creek. Baristo Road at S. Indian Canyon is closed. E. Vista Chino between N. Gene Autry and Cathedral City is closed. Palm Springs Arial Tram is closed. Araby Drive at the wash is closed.
The statement warned residents that, “even though a road may not be closed, most roads in town are flooded and could present a life-threatening hazard. Please stay off the roads if possible. We will try to update road conditions as often as possible.”
Police closed Indian Canyon Drive to all traffic at 7:15 a.m. due to flooding over the roadway. The Closure runs from Interstate 10 south to Vista Chino Drive.
Crews also were in the process of closing North Gene Autry Trail from the interstate to Vista Chino. Police said in the tweet, “Golf Club Drive, Araby, El Cielo and Farrell Roads are experiencing heavy flooding and will be closed.”
In Indian Wells, the City of Indian Wells closed Fred Waring Drive to all traffic between Cook Street and El Dorado due to flooding in the wash.
Cathedral City announced via Twitter a closure of Cathedral Canyon Drive at its wash crossing due to the heavy rain. No word when that road would reopen.

Cathedral City – Date Palm Drive was open to traffic again Friday morning both north and south of Interstate 10. Date Palm Drive was closed Thursday at Los Gatos. Flooding was also reported at various areas of Ramon Road from DaVall to Landau. Please drive with caution.” said a police department tweet. Ramon Road, DaVall Drive, and Landau Boulevard were all open again to traffic on Friday morning.
The city said the following roads are closed:
Cathedral Canyon Drive at the wash, Los Gatos at Date Palm Drive, Vista Chino Road at the wash.
During the height of the storm, there was flooding near Plumley and Converse causing a major slow down as well as Date Palm Drive near Ramon. Flooding was also occurring Thursday on Dinah Shore Drive between Cathedral Canyon Drive and Date Palm Drive.
Varner between Mountain View and Edom Hill has been closed.
Road closures in Desert Hot Springs: Indian Ave. between Mission Lakes and Pierson. Little Morongo Road between Two Bunch Palms and Dillon Road. Dillon Road between Palm Drive and Two Bunch Palms. Use Palm Drive or Pierson if you need to leave the City.
In Palm Desert, Fred Waring, Cook Street, Frank Sinatra, Gerald Ford, and Country Club are all closed at the wash, according the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Palm Desert station.

Numerous fender bender collisions were reported on the freeway in Palm Springs and around the area.

In Rancho Mirage, Frank Sinatra Drive is closed at the Whitewater wash due to ‘flood water topping the roadway’. The city of Rancho Mirage issued a statement warning drivers to use an alternate route.
Country Club is also closed at the wash due to flooding. “Public Works staff are monitoring the water levels at the crossing and will re-open the roadway at a time when we are confident that the traveling public is not at risk.”
In Indio, Avenue 44 is closed at the White Water Channel wash, according to Indio PD.

South of Beaumont, the CHP reported rocks on the road on State Highway 79 southbound north of County Landfill Road.
In Beaumont, several closures were reported by police. Cherry Avenue at Brookside Avenue,
8th Street from Orange to Palm Avenue, 10th Street and Orange Avenue, 11th Street and Wellwood Avenue, Pearl St and Wellwood Avenue.
In Idyllwild, Highway 243 has been closed from Idyllwild to Banning, according to Caltrans. 243 between Lake Fulmor and SR 74 is also closed due to road loss.

Idyllwild and Pine Cove residents have been asked to shelter in place due to road closures and deteriorating road conditions.
The CHP reported flooding on San Timoteo Canyon Road at Live Oak Canyon early Friday, also a slide on State Highway 371 at Burn Valley Road.
