Two men arrested for car burglaries at Date Festival
Two men were arrested Monday night in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins at the Date Festival.
At 9:48 p.m., Indio Police officers patrolling the perimeter Riverside County Fair Grounds in Indio noticed two suspicious suspects near parked vehicles in a parking located at 46601 Arabia Street. The officers had been assigned to patrol the area on suppression detail in response to a series of car burglaries at the Date Festival over the weekend.
As officers approached the suspects, two men, one man handed the other a handgun and a small hammer, according to an Indio Police Department news release. The suspect with the gun and hammer then fled in foot toward Dr. Careen Boulevard to the west of the fairgrounds.
The suspect who fled was detained after a short foot chase. The second suspect was also detained. They were both detained “without incident”, according to the release.
The suspects, both Indio residents, have been identified as 18-year-old Mario Perez and 21-year-old Richard Campos.
“Both suspects were connected to vehicle burglaries in the area and were booked into the Riverside County Jail facility in Indio on felony charges of weapon, burglary tools, and other violations,” read the release.
