“Desert Sea” art installation on display in downtown Cathedral City

A new art installation from a local artist is now on display in the Cathedral City Civic Center area.

“Desert Sea,” by Internationally-recognized Coachella Valley artist, Cristopher Cichocki features a blend of objects from the Coachella Valley. Materials in the piece include Salton Sea barnacles, living aloe vera, and reclaimed irrigation tubing.

“With art enthusiasts coming to the Coachella Valley from all over the world during this time of year, we wanted to showcase the work of an artist that embraces the desert and its’ history,” stated Alan Carvalho, chair of the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission. “Cristopher’s work has been exhibited internationally, and the poetic breadth he expels transforms these living, decaying, and reclaimed materials into a discussion about our environment that resonates deeply within our desert and beyond.”

At night, “Desert Sea” lights up, giving it a more fluorescent look.

The installation will be open to the public until May 5.
