Agua Caliente Elementary opens new campus

The brand new Agua Caliente Elementary School campus in Cathedral City was officially opened this morning.

Students and teachers celebrated with a farewell assembly at the old campus and parade to the new one.

“We have a lot of very excited students, a lot of very excited staff and family members. I know in just a few minutes, we’ll see a lot of happy faces as kids say goodbye to the old building and say hello to this amazing new facility,”

The new campus, which cost approximately $40.7 million to construct, is 82,544 square feet with six new structures of 1- and 2-story buildings. The new buildings include classrooms, administration offices, multi-purpose room (MPR), food services, library, and other related school uses.

Eric Antuna, principal at Agua Caliente Elementary, said the northern portion of the old campus will be torn down and replaced with playgrounds.

“The projection is about 3 to 6 months depending on how much work they have to do. They have to take down the old buildings and they have to grade it and make sure that when the rains that just happened all end up in the right spot. So that’s going to take some time,” Antuna said.

The new campus used to be the school’s field and play area. An official dedication will be on May 30 at 8 a.m.
