Community shows support for fallen heroes at Run from the Law 5k

More than 450 people took off by foot from the law Saturday morning for the fourth annual “Run from the Law” 5k.

Organizer Joe Cook says it’s a way people can honor the 150 lost officers and 24 K9 dogs who died last year. Community members showed support for both active police officers and those who have passed away.

The event kicked off at Ruth Hardy Park in Palm Springs at 8 a.m. and included runners carrying flags with blue stripes to memorialize law enforcement lost in the line of duty.

The Riverside Academy class 206 and San Bernardino Academy classes 213 and 214 carried thin blue line flags in formation.

The cost to participate was $40 and proceeds go toward bulletproof vests for K9 dogs and also a fund for fallen officer Ronil Singh of the Newman Police Department who was killed in December 2018.
