Free tax help for the public

Tax season can be stressful for many — however, one nonprofit is helping ease the burden for families in need of tax help.

Coachella Valley Community Tax Services is offering free tax prep for those making $60,000 or less a year.

The organization will complete federal and state taxes for free. People who want the help need to bring all documents, photo ID, social security cards and I-10 letters for everyone listed on the return.

Organizers said many low-income families may not realize they’re eligible for tax credits or large cash returns.

“It’s super important people file their taxes even if they think they don’t need to. Some people who have lower incomes or work part time jobs or different situations don’t file taxes because they’re not required to,” director Blanca Lopez said. Lopez said many people may be eligible for large tax credits but not know it.

The event will continue every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm at the Indio College of the Desert campus until April 13th.
