Lone survivor of serial killer Andrew Urdiales signs books in Palm Springs

Jennifer Asbenson, the brave woman who escaped after being brutally tortured and nearly killed by serial killer Andrew Urdiales back in 1992, was in downtown Palm Springs on Sunday signing copies of her new book called, “The Girl in the Treehouse.”

Her book details her own personal experiences and journey after she was kidnapped and fighting for her life — serial killer Andrew Urdiales held her hostage in the desert — she ultimately escaped from the trunk of his car.

Asbenson says she’s hoping her book empowers others who have also been through trauma.

“The book is also about loving yourself…because a lot of people that have become victims…kind of become their worst enemy sometimes,” said Asbenson.

She says the most rewarding part is hearing that her story has made an impact in someone’s life.

“It’s all so surreal. Sometimes I can’t keep up with messages on Facebook and I just wish I could help everybody,” she said.

Sunday’s book signing was held at Eight4Nine in downtown Palm Springs; her daughter was by her side for support.

“I’m really happy that she made this book and that she found the gems and the lessons from her experience and was able to manifest it into a piece of art that everybody can relate to,” said Geo Star, Asbenson’s daughter.

“If you stay in victimhood, then the person that victimized you in the first place they won…you need to move on…not move on like ‘get over it’ but move on in the sense of…be a survivor be a warrior…and don’t wait to do that,” said Asbenson.

For those who missed her on Sunday, Asbenson says she will be having another book signing session at the Barnes and Noble inside Westfield Mall on Sunday March 10 from 1pm-3pm.

You can purchase her book here. She says part of the proceeds go towards the American Cancer Society, a charity of her choice after both of her parents passed away from cancer.
