Student Athlete of the Week – Rachel Sherman

“I started water polo freshman year. I never played club or anything,” said Rachel Sherman.

Not bad for one of the best players, not only for the Blackhawks, but in the entire valley. Rachel Sherman seemingly is a natural.

“Rachel is an excellent all-around player but her offense has really come on this year and that’s going to be the first thing that I would think of,” said Cal Lowell.

Can’t blame you coach. Sherman was the 2nd leading goal scorer on a team that averaged 17 goals a game. But credits her teammates for much of her success.

“We’re all our best players like every single one of us is a threat. There’s not one person who’s better than the other – we’re just dominant as a team and I’ve really enjoyed that this season,” said Sherman.

Winning is fun. LQ who went 30-2 overall. But their head coach sees the big picture – understanding that Sherman brings more to life than just her ability to play water polo.

“She’s a sweetheart, she’s dear, very kind-hearted, a loving girl and a good friend to all the kids. The thing that I hope most for her is that she has a happy life and I think she’s on track for that,” said Lowell.

Sherman will continue her academic and athletic career at nearby Citrus College in Riverside with the hopes of playing the game she loves for as long as she can.

“If I get any offers then I’ll definitely look into that but other than that, I’m just going with the flow and don’t have any specific plans,” said Sherman.
