Nearly 200 homeless people housed in Palm Springs since 2016

Palm Springs’ Affordable Housing and Homelessness Subcommittee revealed in a meeting Thursday evening nearly 5,000 homeless people have benefitted from the city’s homeless outreach programs since 2016.

When Roy’s of the Desert closed in June 2016, city officials said they made an extra push to get those who were living at Roy’s a place to stay.

“This is really when we made a big push when Roy’s was closing so, you can see that reflective in the numbers that we were trying to house everyone who was currently living at Roy’s,” said Palm Springs Mayor Pro-Tem Geoff Kors.

Over the past three years, 188 homeless people in the city have transitioned into permanent housing

Data revealed 627 people have relied on temporary housing. While board members are happy with those numbers housing is still the biggest need in the homeless community.

There are currently 133 people with vouchers who can pay rent but there is currently no space available. If you know someone who can help, officials ask that you contact Path of Life at 760) 601-5424. Click here for a list of homeless housing providers.
