Man killed in Eisenhower Health deputy-involved shooting

UPDATE: 3/5/2019 – Man killed in deputy-involved shooting identified

UPDATE: 6:26 p.m. A male suspect is dead following a deputy-involved shooting at the Eisenhower Health campus in Rancho Mirage, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

There are no outstanding suspects and no threats to public safety. No citizens and no officers were injured in the incident.

It is an isolated incident and the campus, located at 39000 Bob Hope Drive, has been secured, per Lee Rice, spokesperson for Eisenhower Health.

The Desert Orthopedic Center is currently being evacuated, and the Desert Cardiology building has already been evacuated. Rice could not confirm the building or location where the shooting occurred.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is advising the public to avoid the area for the next several hours while the investigation is being conducted.

The Eisenhower Medical Center Emergency Room is not impacted by the investigation and is open.

There is a heavy presence from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at the medical center at this time.

The report of shots fired came in at 4:55 p.m.
