Indian Canyon Dr. reopens at the wash

UPDATE: 10:44 a.m. – Indian Canyon Drive has reopened at the wash in Palm Springs.

Indian Canyon Drive remained closed in Palm Springs between 20th Avenue and Tramview Road Friday morning. The stretch of road runs through the Whitewater Wash to just north of Interstate 10.

Police cited power pole maintenance work for the closure Thursday, but also are dealing with high winds and large sand drifts blocking the roadway.

The major artery connecting Palm Springs to Interstate 10 and Desert Hot Springs was shut down around 1:20 a.m. Thursday.

Southern California Edison crews were on scene for repairs.

The roadway is only open for emergency vehicle traffic.

Alternate routes are Gene Autry Trail to the east or Highway 111 to the west. Give yourself additional time due to extra traffic on those other roadways.
