Carole Cook honored with star on Palm Springs Walk of Stars
Carole Cook, comedic icon and Lucille Ball protege, welcomed people to “walk all over me” as she received the 430th star today on the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars.
“I first visited Palm Springs in the late ’50s with Lucille Ball,” Cook said. “Several years later I did my second film with Warner Bros., `Palm Springs Weekend,’ and my love affair with the city continued. Countless charity performances and several engagements at The Purple Room, Palm Springs has
become a home away from home. I’m thrilled and honored to have a star. I welcome everyone to walk all over me!”
Cook’s career spans more than a half-century on the stage and big and small screens. Her television credits include “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Starsky & Hutch,” “Laverne & Shirley” and “The Lucy Show.”
In the 1960s, Cook segued to the Broadway stage, where she was the second actress to play the lead in “Hello Dolly!”
Younger audiences may know her for her role as Grandma Helen in “Sixteen Candles.”
“We’re thrilled to celebrate this honor for Carole,” event co-sponsor Andy Smith said. “While she certainly deserves the star for her artistic work and contributions to Palm Springs alone, it’s her humanitarian endeavors that have touched us most dearly. Carole (has) been involved in the fight against HIV/AIDs since the beginning of the pandemic almost 40 years ago and has donated countless hours to the cause. She’s also given of her talents to a number of charities in Palm Springs.”
The star was unveiled in front of the historic Palm Springs Plaza Theatre at 128 S. Palm Canyon Drive.
