Woman’s trust gives $120K to Guide Dogs of the Desert

A long-time resident of the Coachella who loved and rescued animals in the community found a way to cement her and her husband’s passion.

Kathy and her husband set aside $120,000 in a trust that, upon their passing, would go to Guide Dogs of the Desert. The non-profit organization matches blind individuals with a guide dog that is custom trained to the individual’s personal needs and home environment. Everything comes at no cost to the blind individual thanks to donations.

Guide Dogs of the Desert receive roughly $2,000 a month for just about the next eight years.

“Kathy owned a pet service, they’ve been long-time residents of the desert and she loved animals. She always rescued animals out of the desert and her husband, after much conversation, agreed that they should give some substantial money to the wayward pets that are in this desert community,” said Joel Driver, attorney for PK Bisbee Trust.

Since 1972, Guide Dogs of the Desert has been trained 1,400 guide dogs from around the country to help the lives of blind or visually impaired. Click here to learn more about the organization.
