10-acre fire contained near 70th Avenue in Mecca

Firefighters were battling a vegetation fire Monday night that was burning near 70th Avenue in Mecca.

According to Cal Fire, the fire was initially reported at 8:56 p.m. with trees on fire along the 90000 block of 70th Avenue.

It was burning near a mobile home park, where six families were evacuated from their homes.

Cal Fire officials said forward progress was stopped at 10:40 p.m. 10 acres were burned.

No injuries were reported.

Nearly a month ago, a 3-acre vegetation fire broke out near the intersection of Avenue 70 and Pierce Street. Two mobile homes were destroyed and hundreds of residents were evacuated.
