Man sentenced to 3 years for assaulting RSO deputy
A San Bernardino man who was forcefully arrested during a domestic disturbance near Desert Hot Springs, leaving a deputy with minor injuries, then attacked another deputy at a hospital pleaded guilty today to aggravated battery and was sentenced to three years in prison.
As part of a plea agreement, two counts of resisting arrest were dismissed against Devin Dalton, 30, according to court records.
Deputies responded around 6 p.m. Nov. 12, 2018, to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in the 19000 block of Chuckawalla Trail, according to sheriff’s Investigator Armando Munoz. Sheriff’s officials did not elaborate on the nature of the disturbance, but said “a physical struggle ensued and deputies had to use force to place Dalton under arrest.”
The tussle left Dalton and one of the arresting deputies with minor injuries, according to Munoz.
Dalton was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he “assaulted another deputy while handcuffed, requiring Palm Springs police to respond to assist the deputy,” sheriff’s officials said. That deputy sustained moderate injuries.
