Indio High School lockdown lifted

UPDATE 1:15 PM: The lockdown was lifted at around 1:00 p.m., according to Mary Perry, spokesperson for Desert Sands Unified School District.

“A lockdown at IHS took place earlier this afternoon. Indio police investigated a false rumor of a weapon on campus,” read a statement sent to News Channel 3 by Perry. “The lockdown was lifted following a thorough investigation that determined the rumor to be unfounded.”

Indio High School has been placed on lockdown, according to Mary Perry, spokesperson for Desert Sands Unified School District.

According to Perry, Indio Police Department officers are en route to the school’s campus.

It is unclear at this time what prompted the lockdown protocol being activated.

A viewer told News Channel 3 that the lockdown went into effect around 12:40 p.m.
