Additional officers patrolling Cathedral after recent homicides
The Cathedral City Police Department says you can expect to see more patrols in the streets. This comes after three shootings in the last three days occurred in the city.
Two 23-year-old men have been killed in shootings in Cathedral City this week, no suspects have been apprehended for either shootings.
Monday night, in the Dream Homes area of Cathedral City, 23-year-old Daniel Garcia was killed in a shooting. CCPD Commander Paul Herrera said the incident did not appear to be gang-related. No suspect information has been released.
Wednesday night, in the 34100 Block of Vaquero Road, another 23-year-old man was found inside a Honda Accord with gunshot wounds in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after that shooting, another shooting was reported, not far from Vaquero Road, at around 11 p.m. Officers said several cars were struck by bullets on Desert Vista Road, near Ramon Road
“Multiple rounds were fired from both a rifle and pistol in a nearby neighborhood,” CCPD Commander Paul Herrera said.
Nobody was hurt in this third shooting. CCPD says the incidents are not connected.
Since then, a concerned viewer shared home surveillance video recorded three months ago of a drive-by shooting in a neighborhood about a mile away from Wednesday’s homicide.
A man who lives in the area describes the incidents as isolated.
“I’ll be more vigilant but I still feel 100 percent safe here,” said Steven Markin, a Cathedral City resident.
Herrera said while there’s been an uptick in crime this week, the last homicide prior to last night’s was more than a year ago.
