Congressman Ruiz to announce bill aimed at increasing worker’s wages

Congressman Raul Ruiz is set to announce some new legislation Wednesday aimed at increasing income tax breaks for businesses that increase wages.

The bill is being called the Rewarding American Investment to Support Employees or “RAISE” Act. It’s meant to reward businesses that increase wages for their employees by providing a tax credit. That credit will be based on their overall payroll increase each year.

“We’ve had a simple mission of supporting not only ourself, but the people who work for us and creating long-term opportunities here,” co-owner of Brandini Toffee Brandon Weimar said in support of the legislation.

“I think the bill that’s being proposed today really opens doors. Regardless, we have those ambitions but it’s great to see there’s some legislation that’s in line with our goals.”

The announcement was held at Brandini Toffee in Rancho Mirage at 42250 Bob Hope Drive at 11:30 a.m. The Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce, Beaumont Chamber of Commerce and Desert Business Association attended in support of the bill.
