CSUSB Palm Desert to award most degrees in campus history

394 coyotes will be graduating on June 13.

Cal State University San Bernardino announced Tuesday that its Palm Desert campus will be awarding a record number of degrees during its June graduation, with 394 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees being handed out to those who have wrapped up their education at the desert institution.

“Increasing the college-going and college-completion rates of the Coachella Valley is at the very core of our mission,” said Ron Fremont, interim dean of the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus. “Nearly 4,000 graduates have already benefited from the Palm Desert Campus since its inception 33 years ago in pursuit of their educational dreams.”

The commencement ceremony will be held on June 13 at 6 PM at “The Show” at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage.

Last year, CSUSB Palm Desert awarded 369 degrees.

Graduating top of the class are two local students from La Quinta; Michael Muela will receive the award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student and Nicole Phillips will receive the award for Outstanding Graduate Student. Both students will speak during commencement.

Muela is earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing, while Phillips will be receiving a master’s degree in special education and a teaching credential in mild/moderate special education.

“June’s newly-minted graduates will join an ever-growing community of CSU San Bernardino alumni who are transforming communities across the valley and beyond. We could not be more proud,” Fremont continued in the CSUSB Palm Desert news release.

CSUSB Palm Desert is a four-year public university with over 1,400 students.
