Homeowners: Large number of koi fish dying at local country club
Some homeowners at the Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedral City are complaining about dead and dying koi in a pond at the club.
News Channel 3 received several calls and e-mails from people who live at the club saying the koi and some ducks were being treated “inhumanely” as a result of a pond on the property being drained. Among the people who contacted our newsroom was Michelle Taylor who provided photos and video of the pond taken over the weekend.
Taylor says that somewhere between 50 and 70 fish have died. She also said that she received an e-mail from the general manager of the DoubleTree Hotel at the club in which she was told the pond was drained for a “flow issue” and that the koi would be “rehabitated” to another area of the golf course.
Jef Lawrence, the gm of the hotel. would not comment to News Channel 3 Monday afternoon.
The president of the Homeowner’s Association at Desert Princess did not return our call seeking comment.
