Car hauler overturns on I-10

Police and firefighters were on the scene of an overturned car hauler blocking Interstate 10 freeway lanes east of Coachella Tuesday morning.

A SigAlert was issued after the wreck was first reported at 6:23 a.m. Traffic was slow, but beginning to move again past the crash scene at 10:40 a.m.

Earlier, motorists were urged to avoid Interstate 10 eastbound as all lanes were blocked from the truck on its side, near the Chiriaco Summit. Traffic was backing up.

The California Highway Patrol said a big rig hauling seven vehicles overturned blocking all lanes. Four of the seven vehicles fell off the truck just east of Box Canyon Road.

A second big rig truck was also reportedly involved in the collision, but still upright and parked on the right shoulder.

There was no word on any injuries, but a helicopter was called to the scene.
