Fireworks start fire at Palm Springs hotel balcony

The Palm Springs Fire Department is continuing to investigate a fire in the balcony of a hotel that started after fireworks went off on the night of the Fourth of July.

According to PSFD officials, there was a fire at the balcony of the Hyatt Palm Springs that started when guests lit fireworks in the balcony. The sparks went over the rail and into the balcony below. The sparks ended up lighting a fire in some towels and a chair on the balcony.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire, the hotel sustained minor damage.

The fireworks that started the fire were the “safe and sane” fireworks that are available to buy in stands in four valley cities, however, these kind of fireworks are illegal in Palm Springs.

No word on if the people responsible will face any charges, PSFD officials could not comment on this due to the ongoing investigation.
