Man killed when speeding SUV crashes inside business lot where employee was working
One person was killed in a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a motor home in Beaumont Friday morning, according to Cal Fire.
The accident was reported near the intersection of Beaumont Avenue and 5th Street at 10:26 a.m.
According to the Beaumont Police Department, driver of a silver Subaru SUV exited the highway westbound I-10 freeway at a high-rate of speed. The driver ended up going through the parking lot of Stallion Auto Repair and struck an employee.
The employee, identified by authorities as 50-year-old Darren Kritzberger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the owner of Stallion Auto Repair, Kritzberger was working behind a motor home when the SUV traveled onto the property.
“He was just working on a car trying to make a living. That’s all he was doing. Trying to make a living for him and his dogs, and he’s dead now. God help him,” the owner said.
The driver of the SUV claims couldn’t break because her cruise control got stuck, however, an official cause of the crash has yet to be released. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Crews from Cal Fire as well as officers from the California Highway Patrol and Beaumont Police Department are on scene.
BPD officers are advising motorists to avoid the area.
