Mother arrested for allegedly giving marijuana to her young children
A Desert Hot Springs mother was arrested for allegedly supplying marijuana to her young children earlier this month.
According to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, several concerned citizens sent a video that was spread through social media to police on July 10.
Andrea Solomon, a mother from Desert Hot Springs with two kids of her own, says she saw the video circulating and decided to report it to police. “I noticed that the boy looked very young and if you hear in the background it sounds like he could barely even anunciate or speak correctly and that brought an alarm to me and made me want to send it in as well,” said Solomon.
The video shows two children, approximately ages 12 and 6 according to Desert Hot Springs Police, smoking what appears to be marijuana.
Police detectives took over the investigation and on July 17, served a search warrant in the 66600 block of Third St. The warrant resulted in the arrest of Elaina Kabler, 36, for 3 counts of supplying marijuana to a child under 12 as well as 3 counts of child endangerment.
“When people do post things on social media…law enforcement does have a way of finding out where it came from,” said Detective Chris Tooth, Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
Kabler was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Banning and was being held in lieu of $50,000.00. According to jail records, Kabler is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.
Solomon added that she fears the recent legalization of marijuana might lead to a more “lax” attitude when it comes to parents and pot: “I’m sure it’s going to be something that’s going on that a lot of people don’t see as wrong…but as you can see in the video, it affects the growth ability and speaking ability…it’s bad,” she said.
Anyone with additional information about the video is urged to contact the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
