Suspect arrested after hitting officer with car, officer-involved shooting in DHS
A suspect is in custody after an early morning officer-involved shooting in Desert Hot Springs.
At around 8:45 a.m., the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced that it had taken over the investigation.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 3:28 a.m., DHSPD officers attempted to pull over a vehicle in the area of Ocotillo Avenue and Acoma Avenue for an unknown reason. The driver was noncooperative and drove his car in reverse, striking a police officer who had exited the patrol car.
Shortly afterward, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The passenger in the vehicle was detained after the shooting, but the driver sped off from the location, resulting in a vehicle pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed their car in the area of Fourth Street and Crescent Way. The driver was detained at the crash scene. An RSO spokesperson said the suspect was injured in the officer-involved shooting and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The identity of the suspect has not been released due as the investigation remains ongoing.
The officer struck by the vehicle sustained a minor injury. The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave per Desert Hot Springs Police Department policy. The officer’s name will not be released at this time.

The passenger of the suspect’s vehicle was held for questioning and released
Deputies remained at both locations for several hours to investigate.
