La Quinta man killed in I-10 rollover identified

A La Quinta resident killed in a Friday morning crash has been identified, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau.

59-year-old Robert Fry was ejected from his Ford Ranger during the rollover crash, which occurred on Westbound Interstate about a mile and a half west of the Bob Hope Drive exit in Cathedral City. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The accident was reported at 9:10 a.m. According to Coroner’s Bureau’s release, Fry died at 9:20 a.m.

The crash occurred when the truck began drifting to the left on the freeway, Fry overcorrected to the right and traveled off the right side of the roadway, flipping the vehicle and coming to a rest on its roof about 70 feet from the interstate.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to have played a factor in the crash.

Crews from the Cathedral City Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
