One person killed in I-10 rollover crash

UPDATE: La Quinta man killed in I-10 rollover identified

A rollover crash on Interstate 10 westbound forced a lane closure and slowed traffic on Friday morning.

The crash was reported at 9:11 a.m between the Bob Hope Drive exit and the Date Palm Drive exit.

Crews from the Cathedral City Police Department and the California Highway Patrol are on scene.

A witness on scene said that they saw the driver of the vehicle attempt to correct its path after the truck began to lose control, overcorrected, they crash the vehicle. The witness said that the driver ejected from the vehicle.

According to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Jackie Quintero, the driver was a 59-year-old man from La Quinta. He was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is not known at this time why he lost control of his vehicle.

The involved vehicle reported rolled over off the right shoulder of the freeway and came to a rest about 70 feet from the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
