Alleged DUI driver who struck women in Palm Springs crosswalk arraigned
A Palm Springs octogenarian accused of hitting two pedestrians while drunk, then fleeing the scene, was arraigned Wednesday on four felony charges.
Leroy Patrick Silva, 84, was arrested in the vicinity of last Saturday’s collision at North CalleEncilia and Andreas Road, which left two women seriously injured, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
When officers arrived at the scene at 7:52 p.m., they found the victims in the roadway. The suspect had left the scene, but was pulled over by police a short distance away.
The unnamed victims were rushed to a hospital for treatment of what were described by police as major injuries.
Silva faces two felony counts each of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and hit-and-run.
He’s due back in court for a felony settlement conference on Aug. 9, and remains in custody at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning in lieu of $500,000 bail
